How to find your competitors Google AdWords Performances using Auction insights report

Yes, it is possible to generate a report showing the performance of your competitors Google AdWord. Most Google AdWords Consultants never show this report unless you’re on top.

The report name is Auction insights report. You can easily generate this report by going to your Google AdWords campaign and following below steps.

How to generate Google Adwords Auction Insight Report
How to generate Google Adwords Auction Insight Report

What is Auction report and why is it important?

Auction insights reports shows the percentage of your impressions (How many times you’re Ad is showed in Google) comparing to your competitors impressions for the same keywords.

Sample Auction Insight Report
Sample Auction Insight Report

If your Ads not sharing at least 25% of impressions. It’s time to contact experienced AdWord Consultant or change your AdWords Agency. However here is one of my clients Auction Insights Report.

As you can see, my client shares the 63.37% of all impressions. We are competing with big banks and Big marketing budgets, however with my experience and constant optimisation; I managed to put all the Banks and Big companies out of the water.

How you can get the same results?

Most companies and small businesses in Australia spend thousands of dollars thinking, they know it better. However you need to do only two things. One is a “Do” and other one is a “Don’t”.

Do: Research your keywords

This is the hardest part, Keyword research required more experience, Business knowledge and common sense. I always get in to customers boots and think, “What would they type to search for my products or services?” and I create a list of every possible keyword.

Don’t: Never Ever use Broad match for keywords

Yes, you can use Board match, if your company got million dollar marketing budget. I will give you an example, why I never using Board match. In 2010 I configured a campaign for an Invoice Factoring company and I use keyword “Factoring Australia” in Board match. After few days I realised that, our Ads appears when people search for “Xfactor Australia”. So, now you can imagine how much money you can lose by using Board Match keywords.

I’m not saying. Board Match is just a Scam, there are situations you have to use board match, like Brand awareness campaigns. However, if you running small business and need high ROI, you shouldn’t use Board Match.

Why should Small Businesses use Google AdWords instead of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

It is certain that search marketing is here to stay and Google holds the monopoly of the search market being the world number one search engine.  There are only two options available to anyone who’s looking for search marketing.

  1. Search engine optimisation (SEO)
  2. Google Adwords

Before I mention why small businesses should use Google AdWords, I will explain why they shouldn’t do Search engine optimisation (SEO).

Getting higher rank in Google organic search results for relevant keyword is called Search engine optimization (SEO).  Google determine which search results should come to first page by considering more than 200 algorithms. These algorithms are changing frequently and it is very costly to keep up with the changes.  As an example, around 2002 to 2006 Google put higher ranking on sites with more inbound links (Back Links), therefore every website owner starts to get much links as possible and some people paid for link farms to get many links as possible. However with Googles recent update to search algorithm they don’t care about the inbound links anymore and they blacklisted the websites with too many irrelevant inbound links. These days Google give high priority to websites with Good content and higher user experience. When it’s come to user experience they look for page Speed, Graphics and the quality of the content. Therefore it is very hard for small businesses to satisfy all these requirements with low budget, especially when big competitors are spending big dollars.

Why Google AdWords is the solution?

The main beauty of Google AdWords is, you only spend money for ads people click, Known as PPC (Pay Per Click). There are no hidden fees, No scams.  And you have full control of your budget.  Many of my Google Adwords clients are love the fact when it’s come to controlling their budget.

I just did a Google Search on “Dentist” and found that more than 68% of the visible search results are coming from Google AdWords. Only 4 organic search results are visible without scrolling. Therefore it is obvious that spending money on Search engine optimization isn’t the best method for any business.

68% of Search Results are coming form Google Adwords

Other good thing about Google AdWord is, it’s instant. You don’t have to wait months or years waiting, until your website appear higher in Google search results. As soon as you set up the Google AdWord campaign you are ready to go, and you can start receiving sales. Most importantly, now you can target your audience by geographical location, age, sex and interest base.

Some people argued, organic search results are getting more clicks. However I think it’s a thing of a past. Now people know that, all the Ads are relevant to their search term.

Google’s double headed policy on Social Signals to promote Google Plus

For the people who have no idea about who is Matt Cuts, He is the head of Googles webspam team. For webmasters and Search engine optimisation (SEO) guyz, Matt Cutts like the messenger from heaven, because he always announce valuable insights about Google search and Google search algorithms.

Social Signals, We love them, Noooot :)
Social Signals, We love them, Noooot 🙂

In 2010 December 10th Matt Cutts release a video abut Social Signals. Social signals are the traffic and links generated from Social websites like Facebook and Twitter. In this video he answer the question from a webmaster asking “Hello Matt, a recent article of Danny Sullivan suggests that Google uses Twitter and Facebook links as a ranking signal. Can you Confirm this? Can you elaborate a little bit more on this?” Matt Cuts answer the question saying “Yes, I can conform it. We do use Twitter and Facebook links in ranking, As we always has. in addition we look for the reputation of the author or the creator of Twitter or Facebook page” He also mentioned in the video “Back in May 2010 we didn’t use Facebook and Twitter but we are using now”.  therefore it is conformed that, Google use Social signals when ranking web pages.

However, In 22 January 2014 Matt cuts released a new video about Social signals. webmaster asked “Are Facebook and Twitter signals part of the ranking algorithm? How much do they matters?”. Matt Cuts answer the question by saying “Facebook and Twitter pages are treat as normal webpages ” and he specifically mentioned that they don’t care about how many followers you got or How many likes you have.

 Why is this change?

It’s a Very simple answer. Google launched Google Plus (Google +) in 28th of June 2011. Google plus is mainly introduced to dominate the market of Facebook and Twitter. The best way to prove this is, when Google shows search results, they shows how many followers author has in is Google Plus profile, not Facebook likes or Twitter followers.

Capture

However, I still believe that, Facebook and Twitter are contribution lot, when it’s come to good ethical web traffic.

Google is controlling the Search and they can decide when to change their algorithm and what to change. End of the day It’s all about Business.

These are the two videos, First one is released on 2010 December and second one is released on 2014 January.
